Tour stops may vary

10:00 – 11:00Bauska Castle

The Bauska Castle sits on a scenery land between two rivers Musa and Memele in the territory of Bauska town. The Bauska Castle complex consits of two parts: the older, the Livonian Order Castle, build in the middle of the 15th century, and a newer, a residence for the Duke of Courland, constructed at the end of the 16th century. During the Great Northern War the Bauska Castle ensemble was blew up by the Russian military. Nowadays the residence of the Duke of Courland is fully restored and is home the Castle Museum, while only ruins remain from the seat of the Livonian Order.

11:15 – 13:15Rundale Palace and lunch time

The Rundale Palace, located just 15 kilometres from Lithuania – Latvia border, was built in the 18th century by Ernst Johann von Biron, as the summer residence of the Duke of Courland. The palace was designed by Italian architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli, an author of the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg.
In the course of time and political rush the Palace has changed many owners and purposes – it was used as a hospital, elementary school or even a grain storage facility. Nowadays, after extensive and successful renovation process, The Rundale Palace Museum and Garden attracts masses of tourists and is deservingly called a „Versailles of Latvia“.

14:15 – 15:15The Hill of Crosses

The Hill of Crosses, located sixteen kilometers from Siauliai city, is an authentic monument of history and religious folk art. This small hill with a collection of over 200 000 crosses is the best repository of Lithuanian cross making art and the representation of unshakable faith and a symbol of resistance against occupation.

This was an excellent way of getting from Riga to Vilnius. The tour operator was very professional, and the small bus allowed for adaptation to particular group needs (see below). We were able to see impressive sights while traveling – particularly Rundale Palace in Latvia and the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania.

I was particularly impressed in the tour operator’s handling of an issue when one person on the tour hurt their ankle and needed medical attention. Our driver was able to make sure the person got needed medical attention while also ensuring that the tour continued and the person was able to rejoin the group en route.

“Really beautiful Palace with very well planned stops.”
We really enjoyed this tour with lots of cultural stops and breathtaking views. The day before the tour we realised we made a mistake and booked a one-way trip when we had thought we booked a round-trip (our mistake!). We called up the company and got it sorted very easily for a small charge. Very well served! We really enjoyed the trip and had a wonderful guide. Would recommend!

We booked a transfer (4 pax) in a car from Riga to Vilnius. We original thought of getting to Vilnius by regular bus but found out there are some interesting and must see places in between these 2 capitals. Glad we opted for this. We hot to see 3 sights on the way to Vilnius, Bauska Castle, Rundale Palace and the Hill of Crosses. It was a very comfortable drive and we were given enough time to see the sights and have a good leisurely lunch. Our driver was very professional, very timely and provided us with enough info regarding the places we visited. We highly recommend Discover Lithuania travel company and Reda who promptly communicated our pick-up time. Booked 2 yours with them (other one was Paneriai Memorial and Trakai Castle). Both excellent. Thanks for making our trip to Vilnius memorable and special!
